
Search for: A skirt that slowly but surely flares out in an A development from the natural stomach to the ground, highlighting the narrowness of the midsection and floating from the thighs and hips. (Sturdier fabrics, such as duchesse satin and taffeta, are especially effective, since they won't cling.) A spaghetti-strap bodice or a V neckline will showcase a more slim upper body also.

Keep in mind: A classic A-line silhouette lends itself to formal marriages, but it can be dressed down when made from a more informal fabric, like eyelet raw-silk or ribbons shantung.
