Look for: A skirt that steadily flares out within an A formation from the natural waist to the floor, highlighting the narrowness of the midsection and floating from the thighs and sides. (Sturdier fabrics, such as duchesse satin and taffeta, are effective especially, given that they won't cling.) A spaghetti-strap bodice or a V neckline will showcase a more slim upper body also.
Keep in mind: A vintage A-line silhouette lends itself to formal marriages, but it can be dressed down when made from a more casual fabric also, like eyelet raw-silk or ribbons shantung.
