
Search for: A skirt that gradually flares out in an A creation from the natural waist to the ground, highlighting the narrowness of the midsection and floating away from the thighs and sides. (Sturdier fabrics, such as duchesse taffeta and satin, are effective especially, since they won't cling.) A spaghetti-strap bodice or a V neckline will showcase a more slender upper body also.

Keep in mind: A vintage A-line silhouette lends itself to formal marriages, but it can be dressed down when made from a more everyday fabric also, like eyelet ribbons or raw-silk shantung.
